Gulab Jamun

Gulab jamun is a sweet dish that is synonymous to the Indian subcontinent that brings a sense of comfort, a dish that brings enjoyment and memories of sheer happiness to your soul.

A hot Gulab Jamun with cold ice-cream on a cold winter evening. A sin full mouth watering combination which is hard to resist. This sweet is a favorite  with both the old and the young. This sweet is easily adapted for casual occasions be it birthdays, family get-togethers, welcome parties to farewells to the most formal, special, valuable event of your life your wedding where well-made jamuns can make your guest satisfied. which explains its great and enduring popularity. The perfect balance between the appetizing aroma and tantalizing your taste buds.  Kneaded out of khoya and a pinch of flour then shaped into small balls and deep fried on a low flame to a beautiful deep brown. The balls are then soaked in sugar syrup with a light fragrance of  pure Gulab Jal  (Rose Water) hence the name. Now dipping your spoon into the spongy, golden colored globe held in the bowl in the front of you, the treat still warm offers a fragrance of  roses (gulab) and at times cardamom. Gulab jamun is by turns gooey, spongy ,sweet, aromatic warm desert which satisfies the craving for  a perfect Indian sweet.

There are marginal variations in the making and shapes of our favorite sweet.Other name of gulab jamun is also known as  ”Kala jamun” which is nothing but the jamun rolled in sugar then fried and later soaked in sugar syrup which gives it the dark color which is almost black thus ”kala” black.It is at times rolled in dried coconut.By and large gulab jamuns are round in shape but at times you can give them a oval oblong shape.
